Step 1: Get out your list

In the Dream Job Guide we shared how it is important to get crystal clear on what you want (or don’t want) and to begin making a list of keywords, job titles, and even employers.  To make your search the most effective, you will want to have your list ready!

Step 2: Why we use Indeed

Step 3: How-to guide to Job Searches Online

Keywords are critical for finding exactly what you want. Indeed will use what you enter to find you jobs, think of it like a smart search engine. Follow these instructions to find jobs.

1) Understand job search lingo to find what you want. Here is how…

If you have a phrase for a job type you are searching for, type into the WHAT box on our Job Search Page using “quotation marks” around the phrase. For example, “part time accountant”, “chat representative” or “work at home”.

Then, all of the results you see are what directly match the phrase you entered from either the job title or job description.

2) Find a specific job title…

Find exact matches for specific job titles by typing into the WHAT box on our Job Search Page Title: and then type in a word or phrase for what you are looking for.

examples:

For specific job titles, enter in — title: reservations agent

For job phrases, enter in — title: “entry level customer service” or title: “work at home”

Tailor each of your entries to be specific to what it is you are looking for.

3) Possibly it is a specific employer or company you are looking for…

To find jobs posted direct from specific employers, you will enter into the WHAT box on our Job Search Page:

Direct company one word name, type — company: nordstrom  or any employer you are looking for.

For a phrase or multiple words for the company name, use quotations and type — company: “omni hotels”, for example.

Using quotations around an employer’s name with more than one word will ensure that only jobs posted by that employer are delivered in the search results.

4) You can also exclude words or phrases from your search…

Maybe you want to find a customer service job, but exclude an employer. Type in the WHAT box first what you are looking for then a minus sign, no space, and what you are wanting to exclude. Here are some examples:

In the what box enter: title: “customer service” -company:”capital one”

Following each of these steps will allow you to find only the jobs which are the best match for what you are looking for.
